We had to stop the recording, because suddenly that feeling Asilika had held close when she was a small child in a big school, crept out and there were tears.

The now bubbly, self-confident school librarian was recalling her teacher Miss Samuels, who’d taken special care of the shy child in her junior classroom.

With the camera turned off Asilika composed herself, expressed surprise that memories of so long ago could affect her so strongly now, and then continued her story about the critical part teachers play in the lives of children.
