LAKE WAIKOPIRO 1. 12/04. A tranquil Lake Waikopiro in the Lake Tutira Wildlife Refuge and Country Park, northern Hawkes Bay, North Island, New Zealand. Formed 7400 years ago by streams blocked after a massive landslide, Lake Waikopiro and adjacent Lake Tutira are important habitat for a number of native waterbirds, eels and freshwater shellfish.
